VIMI JOSHI’S 5 PRO MAKEUP PRINCIPLES FOR FLAWLESS APPLICATION

After more than 28 years as a makeup artist, I always come back to the same belief: beautiful makeup is never about covering who you are. It is about understanding your features, your skin, your undertone and how to make products work for you.

Here are five principles I use every time I create a look.

1. Skin preparation is everything

Makeup will only sit beautifully if the skin underneath is well-prepped. Hydrate, massage, and give your skincare a moment to settle before applying makeup. This instantly helps product glide better and last longer.

2. Understand your undertone

The right colour should feel like it belongs to your face. When a shade works with your undertone, it brightens, lifts and brings harmony. When it does not, even the most beautiful product can feel slightly off.

3. Build in thin layers

I never believe in heavy application straight away. Start with less, then build where needed. This gives you more control and keeps the finish fresh, modern and skin-like.

4. Blend with intention

Blending is not about removing product. It is about softly connecting everything together. Whether it is eyeshadow, liner or lip and cheek colour, every edge should feel seamless.

5. Use light and dimension

Flawless makeup is not flat. It has depth, softness and balance. I always look at where the face naturally catches light and where it needs a little definition. That is what brings makeup to life.

By using these principles, you can make every product work harder and create a look that feels truly your own.
